Ingredients

For the Turkey Burgers:

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup red onion finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

For the Creamy Chipotle Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

Mix the Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, red onion, cilantro, minced garlic, and all the spices. Mix gently, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Shape the Patties

  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ¾-inch thick patty. If the mixture feels sticky, wet your hands with a little water.

Cook the Burgers:

  • Grill: Preheat the grill to medium heat. Cook the patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  • Pan-Fry: Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil. Cook the patties for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  • Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place the patties on a baking sheet and cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Make the Chipotle Sauce

  • Blend together the yogurt, mayo, chipotle peppers, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until smooth. Adjust seasoning as needed.

Assemble the Burgers

  • Toast the buns. Spread a generous layer of chipotle sauce on the bottom bun, add the turkey patty, and top with your favorite toppings (lettuce, tomato, avocado, or pepper jack cheese). Drizzle more sauce on top and add the top bun.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve with sides like Mexican street corn, sweet potato fries, or cilantro-lime slaw!
