Baked French Onion Chicken
This Baked French Onion Chicken is a cozy, flavorful dish that’s big on taste but easy on your budget. Bone-in chicken thighs, caramelized onions, and a rich broth come together in one skillet for a delicious meal that feels gourmet without breaking the bank.
- 4 Bone-in Chicken Thighs skin-on thighs
- 1-2 Large onions sliced
- 2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 2 tsp Onion Powder
- 2 tsp Italian Seasoning
- 1/2 tsp Salt & Pepper
- 1 packet Lipton French Onion Soup Mix
- 1 cup Beef Broth
- 1 tbsp Garlic minced
- 1-2 tbsp Olive Oil for cooking
- 1 cup Cheese of Choice Optional: swiss, mozzarella, gruyere
Season the Chicken
Mix garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Rub evenly over each chicken thigh.
Sear the Chicken
In a cast iron skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Place chicken thighs skin-side down and sear for 3-4 minutes, until golden and crispy. Flip and sear the other side for 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
Caramelize the Onions
In the same skillet, add more oil if needed, then add sliced onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Add minced garlic during the last minute.
